EPDM roofing membranes have been recognized as the most environmentally friendly choice for flat roofs. This was announced in the latest assessment of building materials in 2025 by the Netherlands Institute for Building Biology and Ecology (NIBE).
The following were assessed:
• the membraneitself;
• the cost of its installation;
• hidden costs that affect the environment such as energy use for production, raw
materials consumption, etc.
• the possibility of recycling and reusing the membrane at the end of its life.
